Fanhattan: Congratulations on the ninth season.

Emily Deschanel: Thank you.

Fanhattan: How long ago did you know this was coming?

Hart Hanson: Well, we knew that season nine was a pickup under a number of contingencies. Deals had to be made and financial stuff.

Emily Deschanel: People had to work out their deals. I knew our deal, David and I worked out a deal at a certain point over the holidays but then I didn’t know if that meant [everyone had]. I was asking David on set the other day, “So who else needs to work out a deal before we get a ninth season?” So it was sort of a surprise and not really at all.
